CFA Prep

Even before my cfa prep there were a few things that I had already done.  1. I did 2 NCFM courses.   2. I learned about Markets and 3 fin statements in Zerodha varsity(free).  If you have a little knowledge it will help but it's not really mandatory, you can directly jump into CFA too.   My sources for preparation: 1. CFA curriculum 2. Schweser books 3. Mark Meldrum Youtube channel (Mostly I followed him for my prep strategy). 4. Google :P  My preparation: I started my prep in May 2019 and completed the whole syllabus in around 3-4 months except maybe 15-20% which I felt tough or boring. It was more like more like going through the entire syllabus and practicing questions. It's important to complete the syllabus. (After that I spent more time on CAT and less time on CFA)   After CAT, I completed the leftover syllabus and revised everything. Took a few mocks. Finally gave the exam on Dec 7, 2019.  A few important points:  1. Complete...

Life - Step function or Y=X

We tend to think and pursue life as a step function. Especially the outsiders(everyone except you) think your life is a step function. They don't see the ups and downs in your daily life. They can only look at the results. When you achieve something it's a sudden up for them. You are suddenly a different person to them. Whereas you haven't changed almost anything. It's a continuous process. It's like a Y=X graph. It can never be a step function. - Bhanu

Game of dreams!

"It is too dark", he said. "Of course it is, we are not looking for the sun here", I told my friend. "If you waste our time we won't reach our home in time." I minded him. My friend Robin and I came here to know the hidden secret in this old bungalow, as almost since I was ten no one was ever dared to come here. But I did it now and I am feeling proud of me. That was a big three bungalow which was located almost thirteen Kilometres away from the city. We have been questing here for more than 2 hours still didn't see anything mystical. "Rob! Rob! Rob!" Robin shouted at me. I rushed there and we saw a person who is sitting in the middle of the room and studying or praying with a book on the table. Robin was shivering and frightened but we slowly entered into that large room and slowly approaching. Meanwhile, the doors were closed automatically and he suddenly turned back and boom...... "Wake up Rob, wake up If u don't wak...

Destiny!

1. Our life is all about connecting several key incidents/moments. Few are controllable and few are not. What is destiny? An incident of a moment had to happen in your life no matter what you do before that. So, that's your destiny to come to this incident or moment. So, what to do with destiny now? Once you realize your destiny you can start making decisions without much thinking until you arrive at your destiny. When can you realize then? You can realize something is your destiny after the incident had happened or before it had happened. After realization: All the things happened in your life would now make sense to you. You realize all were leading you to one thing. You can understand the importance of the moment now. Before realization: If you can somehow able to figure out your future destiny you no longer bother about the other decisions. No matter what you do you are gonna end up meeting that. But, if you were wrong then you are screwed all over. Exp...

P/L:  Revenue:  Premium income Investment income Fee income Expenses: Benefits or Claims paid to the customers. Increase in reserves for future benefits or claims. (Money kept aside for claims which have been reported but not settled) Interest expenses on borrowed money(in case there is any) Balance Sheet:  For insurance companies, balance sheets show: Assets, which typically include: • Cash • Investments • Fixed assets (property and equipment) • Assets held in separate accounts (assets that are managed by the insurance company but belong to customers) • Deferred policy acquisitions costs (DAC) • These are costs that a life insurance company has incurred to acquire (or issue) new insurance and investment contracts • These costs are deferred and amortized over the life of the related insurance or investment contract • These are amortized over time in recognition of the fact that acquisition costs (e.g., sales commissions) represent a signifi...
